Moments after losing their daughter Nora West-Allen, Barry and Iris discover that her message has been destroyed. Four months later, they seemed to accept what had happened, but the others were not convinced. During the recovery of Nora's discarded suit at the junkyard, Iris is almost sucked into a black hole. Her research into what caused this leads her to Chester P. Rank, who built a machine to open black holes only to eventually fall into catatonia after half of his consciousness was consumed by it. Worse, a black hole is opening up over Central City, much larger than before. Using a technique from Nora's backup glove, Barry dives into the black hole, retrieves Chester's consciousness, and places it back in it, restoring it and closing the black hole. Meanwhile, Caitlin helps Frost learn to live his own life and tries to dissuade his colleague Ramsey Rosso from using dark matter to treat his patients. Rosso ignores Caitlin's warnings and tests his medicine on himself, only to demonstrate his metahuman abilities. Elsewhere, Barry and Iris learn that the Monitor destroyed Nora's message to dissuade Barry from changing his fate during the impending crisis, telling him that the Flash must die so that billions can live.
