When the police investigate the murder of one of the city's crime families, Barry suspects that the killer may be a metahuman who can control toxic gases. While Barry and Joe figure out the identity of the killer, Wells and his team work to convert the particle accelerator into a prison for metahumans, where they can start looking for a way to reverse their mutations. This brings back hard feelings and memories for Snow, whose fiance, Ronnie Raymond, was killed in the explosion. The team identifies the killer as Kyle Nimbus, discovering that Nimbus does not control the gases, but transforms his body into them. The team learns that Joe, the lead detective in the original case, is Nimbus ' next target. Barry rushes to the Iron Heights jail to save Joe's life, forcing Nimbus to overexert himself so he can apprehend him. The team locks Nimbus in the cage they made. In a flashback to the accelerator exploding, Wells enters his secret room and watches surveillance video of Barry being struck by lightning in his lab.
